And here's what Ed-Wyatt wants to tell you today!
Ed-Wyatt and Miss Barbara Save Sea Turtles
Miss Barbara and I were watching the sunset at Coconuts Restaurant on the beach. We could hear the sound of the ocean as it would flow onto the sand and then roll back out. Suddenly, we noticed little things crawling toward the light of Coconuts. We took a closer look and discovered they were baby sea turtles. Usually hatchlings crawl toward the ocean light, but they were confused and were going the wrong way.
The owners of Coconuts quickly turned off their lights by the beach and it became dark. The little turtles turned around and went toward the ocean. The area was searched for ones that might have lost their way. Several were found and they were released into the ocean.
A nature representative was called and he was able to find the nest. It is important to count the hatched eggs and rescue any turtles left behind in the nest. Mama turtles usually lay 100 eggs per nest. Most of the time, only one out of 100 will survive the adventurous ocean.
What an exciting night...we helped save baby sea turtles!
